Surplus letters were mailed out in January of 2018 for 2016 pay 2017 Fall Installment.
If you receive a letter, you will need to provide the original receipt showing payment of taxes. If you do not have a receipt, you will need to seek documentation of payment.
Mortgage Company Documentation
If your mortgage company pays your property taxes you will need to contact your mortgage company for documentation of payment. This documentation should include either the original receipt or a copy of the check used to pay and a list of parcels paid by that check.
This information along with the claim form can be used to claim the surplus from the St. Joseph County Auditor's Office.
Treasurer's Office Documentation
If you mailed in a payment to the St. Joseph County Treasurer's Office and did not request a receipt be mailed back to you via self-addressed stamped envelope then someone whose name is on the check must come to the St. Joseph County Treasurer's Office with a valid ID to obtain proof of payment which can be used along with the claim form to claim the surplus from the St. Joseph County Auditor's Office.
